Abaco Lodge, On the Marls…

The “Marls of Abaco” are situated along the western shore of Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas, encompassing a vast swath of prime, wilderness bonefish habitat. The Marls has long been considered one of the most unique and productive fisheries in the Bahamas for its prolific numbers and cooperative fish.
Accommodation

Abaco Lodge sits on Abaco’s west side on the rocky shoreline of the Marls—just north of Marsh Harbour en route to Treasure Cay. The lodge has ten large air-conditioned private rooms with private bath that open onto a spacious back verandah overlooking the Marls. The main dining hall and living room faces the pool, outside fire pit, and patio seating areas. Inside you’ll find a fully stocked bar, sitting room with satellite TV, exquisite dining quarters, and an evolved menu of traditional Bahamian cuisine meets new world culinary achievements. In addition, you can fish all day while staying in touch with home: a computer with high-speed internet is available, as well as a wireless connection, phone service upon request, and the lodge has a new flat screen TV for all the games. The bar is fully stocked with spirits, cold beers, soft drinks, plenty of ice, and a blender and mixers for cocktails.

The shop includes Sage rods, Abel reels, RIO lines, backing, leaders and tippets. You’ll also find a great selection of top producing flies, as well as sunscreen and lip protectors, Mangrove sungloves, dry bags, Costa del Mar polarized sunglasses, tropical-weight long-sleeve fishing shirts, hats, and t-shirts. At the west end of New Providence lays an exquisite hideaway. A Stone’s Throw Away is perched on one of the highest elevations by the coast. Here our Guests can indulge in a rare panoramic view of Nassau’s land and sea. The scenery boasts the best of the island’s natural wonders, from the native pine forest by Lake Killarney to the brim of the coral reefs that protect the glimmering beaches of West Nassau.

The property was built 7 years ago to echo the traditions of an old Bahamian home: wood floors and wood ceilings, louvered shutters and a large wrap around porch bring the visitors back to a quieter time long ago when the music of the islands could be heard in the whispers of the trade winds.

Green Turtle Cay is a vacation paradise for sailors, divers and fishermen. The island is intimate in size at 3.5 miles in length and 1.5 miles wide and it is located just three miles off the east coast of Great Abaco. Green Turtle is the gem among this stretch of islands with an uneven coastline, deep bays, and pristine, white-sand beaches. It is closest in proximity to the southeast coast of Florida, located 170 miles due east of Palm Beach.

Coral gardens teem with colorful sea life, making for wonderful snorkeling and diving expeditions. Shelling on the powder-soft beaches and offshore sandbars is among the finest in The Bahamas. You can find starfish and sanddollars as you stroll along the shores. Boaters are encouraged to explore deserted islands like Fiddle Cay to the north and No Name Cay and Pelican Cay to the south of Green Turtle Cay.

Green Turtle Cay is a history lover’s delight. Founded by the Loyalists in the 1700s, the historic village of New Plymouth was born of those individuals still loyal to the Crown of England. Easily accessible by rental golf carts, New Plymouth hosts the Albert Lowe Museum, the Loyalists Sculpture Garden, along with many little, quaint bars and restaurants. New Plymouth is unique in that it is a true working Bahamian village. While in the village, be sure to stop by some of the workshops of the local craftsmen, see their work and meet some of the friendliest people in the world.
